Another day, the same ship
Martin writes... Mile6 campsite is situated in a very sheltered bay with green grass and the sea lazily lapping the black volcanic shore.

Swimming is peaceful, and the cool ocean gives us the opportunity to cool down... however, lurking at Mile5 is Cameroon's offshore oil rig and oil processing plant.  As recently as November 2004, Mile6 was covered in crude oil... yet still the huge ships roll in...

Quick Link

Vergina II first approached the oil rig yesterday morning around 6:30am.  The dull greyed out photo below shows her being manoeuvred into place with the help of two tugs. The interesting question is: she came fully loaded... but departed empty. What was she carrying that the oil rig required?

12th May 2005- Fully loaded

13th May 2005- Empty

Unfortunately, due to the high level of pollution caused by the crude oil spill, two of the four monkeys which habitat Mile6 beach were killed.
