Farewell to Nigeria
Martin writes... After more than three months together, it was a sad farewell to our Italian friends Luca and Sameena.  They will be spending a month in Cameroon filming a documentary about the country and the people. Debs and I need to be in Namibia in July to meet my folks and then in Kenya for August - to meet friends and climb Mts Kenya and Kili.

Almost three years ago, I met Ben and Christine at the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) 'Explore 2002' conference.  Little did I know we would meet up in Calabar, Nigeria in 2005 :-)

After getting our Cameroon visas, and chatting with Ben and Chris, we decided that we would travel through Central Africa together as their time frame for reaching Namibia was very similar to ours.

The road from Calabar to the Ekang border with Cameroon quickly deteriorated into a mud sodden road.

The worst Nigerian road

Ekang Police station

After spotting the Ekang Police station, we stopped to ask how far the Cameroon border post. They looked strangely at us and then pointed to 200m away ... we were at the border post!

Officer Commanding (OC) Sam, and his officers Omini and Besang offered us the best of Nigerian hospitality after we asked if we could park up for the evening at the police station.  We then spent a wonderful evening chatting, and eating 'fufu' at the local restaurant.
