The River City
Matadi was our destination for the day.  Leaving our bushcamp in the early morning (having been woken up by many passing trucks during the night) we continued to negotiate the very bad roads.  Luckily this is the dry season so the roads are not muddy. After 53km of 'landy-busting' ruts and bumps, we arrived in the town of Boma - finally the tar road began.  A few hours later we noticed the huge bridge which was to carry us across the impressive Congo river.

Quick Link

The bridge was allegedly built in 1981 and is the most impressive bridge we have seen in Central Africa. Matadi is a huge city sprawled across the river bank and surrounding hills.  It also hosts a deep-water port.
