Bee Attack
Martin writes...

As the sun crested the hilltops, the ominous sound of buzzing bees bought us to our senses - we had experienced 'moisture' bees before in Mali (not good!), so when Ben exclaimed that they were surrounded by bees looking for water and that they were fleeing to safe ground it meant that we were the main bee attraction after they left.

We were not keen on another stinging bee episode so we quickly closed the tent and gave pursuit to Ben and Christine. This all took place around 6:15am! 'Moisture' Bees as we refer to them are the common honey Bee found throughout the region.

The Reserve de Lope provided us with a chance to escape the usual bush camp and celebrate Martin's birthday in style.  Costing £30 a night we almost had the reserve to ourselves until three Italians arrived in an old Toyota Land Cruiser.  Marco, Matteo and Luca had not initially planned to do a full trans-Africa trip but after a short holiday in Morocco, they decided to continue driving to South Africa - so every holiday (split into 3-4 week stints) is now spent in Africa!  This trip ends in Luanda.

Debbie writes ... at this point I must add that it took some serious convincing to get Martin to agree to spend the night at this lovely reserve.  Agreeably, it was VERY pricey for our budget pockets (with dinner and breakfast), but it was Martin's birthday after all :-)
