Trading Beer
Martin writes... teamed up with the Italian trio, we were definitely the snails of the convoy.  That is how we described ourselves to them after they quickly motored down the piste heading for the Congo Border. Little did we know that in the afternoon we would be reuniting again ... for a muddy episode.

Our usual day begins around 06:30am when I wake up - tea and coffee is then made and everyone rises shortly after.  The day's drive begins around 9am, after which we stop for a coffee at 11am.  During today's coffee break, a truck pulled up carrying cases of beer and coke.  Seizing the opportunity, we quickly negotiated a price for exchanging our empty bottles with full ones. 4 bottles of beer was way too few ... so the Italians started some serious negotiating --- DKNY shoes for a case of beer!
