Piste 'ZZ2'
Waypoints plugged in, we set off following the French route for Cap de Arguin. A treacherous route to a waypoint 'ZZ2' - where we envisaged the start of the Arguin Bank National Park in Mauritania and the famed Nouadhibou-to-Nouakchott coastal piste.

We were able to follow feint traces of previous vehicles heading in our direction - these tracks soon diminished and we were left to our own devices to carve out our own piste. Our Landy's (& truck) had to work hard in the sticky coastal mud.

Upon checking our position, ZZ2 turned out to be incorrectly marked on the digital Russian maps - which were loaded on the computer and connected to the GPS. It is now a standing joke that when something is not quite right ... it is 'Zee Zee 2' :-)  We were rewarded that night to a lovely campsite on the beach, where we had visitors of 4 desert jackals.

Another dune - another recovery

Desert rock formations

Travelling in the desert is a true privilege - words cannot describe the vastness of the terrain, spectacular dunes, stunning sunsets, vast array of stars ... and much tranquillity!
