Tafraoute - the hidden gem
Debbie writes...
We had not heard much about Tafraoute, but our friend Jacque suggested we visit the area. Nestled in the heart of the Anti-Atlas mountains, Tafraoute has stunning rose-pink landscapes and rich palmeries - idyllic for overlanding!

Jacque had done much mountain-biking in this region and met some very special people. One of which was Abdullah and his family. Abdullah's brother Lahssen, invited us all to join his family for Sunday lunch - traditional Moroccan cuisine. Radeesha (wife) served us a huge platter of couscous (comes with meat and vegetables), which was placed in the centre of the table and we all tucked in (with forks). To accompany lunch we were served a drink of soured milk (like yoghurt) - it was very refreshing.

The children were delightful - obviously on their best behaviour. Safa (11yrs), Adnan (9yrs), Mirwan (8yrs) and baby sister (1yr) - all incredibly gorgeous and very, very well mannered.

Lahssen (an ex-mountain-bike guide for Exodus Travel) and the boys took us for a walk in the afternoon - up the huge boulder rocks to overlook the nearby villages in the valleys. Father and sons were like rock rabbits, as they climbed the rocks with rapid agility. The boys took a liking to Martin and followed his every move - if he jumped, they jumped... if he skipped, they skipped! It was indeed very sad saying goodbye to this wonderful family ...
