Martin writes... 0600 hours
the alarm sounded - both Debbie and I had had a good nights sleep purely
because we were so exhausted from all the packing and emotional turmoil of
leaving. Our departure schedule required us to get to our local running club for 0930 - this we did and what a great farewell we received from our friends. Hardly a tear was shed as the runners departed and we fired up Maggie. Loaded to the hilt with expedition gear, (and Robyn's fudge) we turned the Landy towards the M25 and started for Dover. Alas, the M25 had one last traffic jam for us before we were set free to leave UK Shores. |

The port of Dover is like a maze although, if you follow the signposts, it starts to unravel and eventually leads you to the correct departure ramp. Our ferry to Dunkerque departed perfectly on time and the rest was smooth sailing to the French coast.
