Our progress through Benin allowed for enough time to do some sight-seeing before reaching Cotonou and applying for our Nigerian Visa. The Michelin map highlighted a waterfall close the Togo border. We eventually arrived at the river only to find that there were no waterfalls! |

Bordering the river was an old farm house and a number of huge barns. We
had noticed that a lot of the farm equipment was Chinese so upon stopping
and asking for permission to camp near the farm house we were told that
the Chinese had invested in the farm 30 years ago. Only one of the
tractors run, none of the four tractor-powered waterpumps from the river and none of the
old farm houses are used. This sparked a debate amongst us - does
investment in Africa ever work?
